So, since the great crash of November 3rd, 2009 I've been trying to decide if I want to play a Maxis Matchy game or a realistic sort of game. I've been wanting to do a film for awhile but I like the way realistic Sims look in films compared to Maxis genetics. I realize I could have both but I would have to take out my skin overrides, which I don't really like, but keep because they have genitalia. It also doesn't help that I just made way over to Maxis Dreams which all about Maxis Matchiness. I don't think there isn't a hair I don't love on there. I also was really liking the default skins and eyes. Not more realistic but better looking for sure.
I will have to research and ruminate on this further.

It Can Happen To Anyone
I don't know what the hell I thought I was doing, but I only had backed up part of my data to CD and flash drive. So, although I did get all of my music and some of my Sims2 Downloads saved, I still lost a lot of stuff.
I knew this was coming. I knew the entire thing was going to blow up on me but I hadn't quite gotten everything saved. And I don't know why I hadn't saved my Sims2 downloads folder to disc? What was that? I think I thought I had saved the majority of that to disc as well. If I have, I haven't been able to find that disc anywhere. I was really very good about sorting everything. But I hadn't apparently sorted them out onto a disc.
I think the most painful was 4 years of bookmarks and writing (recent writing, not old stuff).
I've almost gotten all my hacks for the Sims2 back. I have almost all of my Firefox extensions as well. I found a new anti-virus. Avast decided it wanted to choke over a dll so I said, fine, I'll find something. I toddled off to File Hippo and got myself Bit Defender Free.
I'm being very careful as to what I'm adding to this computer now. I am thinking about getting a new modem and setting up the computer my friend Jamie gave me and putting Ubuntu on it. I realize I'm a dinosaur with internet connections. Becky said she'd help me set up my dial up service to use Linux.
What good has come out of this? I've found new hacks, new clothing, new creators for the Sims2. I've found a bunch of new and cool addons for Firefox (Organize Status Bar anyone?). I'm going to backup everything better. I am gladdened that I did save all of my programs to disc so I didn't have to go around and download them again.
Just remember. Save everything that means something to you. Even if you think you can find it later, you might not be able to. This is something we've all learned in the The Sims2 creating community. A person can set up a Sims web shop, put up an awesome mesh for recolor and have a proprietary user policy. And then POOF. All the stuff is gone because they just couldn't afford or commit to the site. Because of this, everyday, I bless sites like MTS2 for hosting creators or the souls at WickedNoukFamily for running the Sims 2 Graveyard. And yes, even the Pirates at Paysites Must Be Destroyed [although I have opinions on Arring (but don't we all?)] have done a big favor for the community.
Rambling now. I'm off to finish finding things.
